Description

In this class, we will use our home sewing machines and embroidery modules to create an all-over quilting design for a crib-size quilt.  I will demonstrate and instruct using the Amelie Scott Designs method.

Expectations and Goals

You should have a full working knowledge of your sewing machine and embroidery module.  At the end of this class, you should be confident at sandwiching, hooping and quilting using your home machine and embroidery module.  This method is easily transferable to lap-size quilts and will save you long delays waiting for a long-arm quilter.

Required Materials

∙Amelie Scott Designs book and CD (or online version)- Edge to Edge Quilting With Your

Embroidery Machine

∙Crib-size quilt top OR 1 ¼ yard fabric (facsimile top). Please note: Nothing too precious, this is a practice piece.

∙Batting and backing with at least 3” excess all the way around the quilt top OR 1 1/3 yard

coordinating fabric (facsimile backing).  Cotton batting like Quilter’s Dream Request.

∙Jump drive to transfer files from CD (or online)  to embroidery module.

∙Light-weight stabilizer like Sulky tear-away.

∙Clover double-sided ½” basting tape.

∙ODIF 505 temporary spray adhesive.

∙Embroidery thread.  I use Glide for top and bobbin.

∙Sewing machine with embroidery module and largest hoop. I have a Bernina 790 Plus and use the Maxi hoop.

Before Class

∙Press and sandwich all 3 layers with basting spray.  If you prefer, I can help you with this before

class, you just need to arrive early.

∙PLEASE NOTE: Batting and backing must be larger than the quilt top.  I allow at least 3” excess

all the way around the quilt top but sometimes more is needed.

∙Arrive to class in time to set up your machine and embroidery module so that we can start

promptly.

∙This 5- hour class should be enough time to complete most if not all of the quilt but I am willing to provide extra help if needed.
