Before patterns were drafted on paper, they were shaped on the body. In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn the foundations of draping — the technique designers use to sculpt fabric directly on a dress form to create and problem-solve garment shapes in three dimensions. No previous draping experience is required.
- Draping terminology and tools
- Pinning fabric to the dress form
- Working with the grainline on the body
- Draping a basic bodice block
- Creating darts and shaping through pinning
- Marking and removing a drape
- Transferring a drape into a flat pattern
- Truing and finishing pattern edges

A completed muslin drape, a transferred flat pattern, and hands-on experience translating a 3D shape into a wearable design.
