Description

Aloha! We will be learning the history of Hawaiian quilts and the basics of hand appliqué to make a 16”x 16”  ”ulu” Hawaiian breadfruit design. This is a hand sewing class. Students will be guided through the applying of the design to the background, basting and sewing the design onto the background and the quilting “echo" pattern. Students can make a pillow from the project or a small wall hanging.

Instructor:

Patricia Bruvy is College of Marin's quilting teacher! She has been working in textiles since the 70's and making art quilts since the 90's. Sign-up for her class to learn more about her extensive and international teaching experience!

Fees:

Village Sewing Non-Refundable Deposit $10.00

Instructors Class Fee: $75.00

The $10.00 Village Sewing Deposit holds your spot for the class and can be paid online. The $75.00 Instructors Class Fee must be paid on the day of class. This fee can be cash or a check made out to the instructor, Patricia Bruvry. 

Supplies:

- Background  Cotton 18” x 18” (white suggested)
- Contrasting fabric for the ulu 18” x 18” (solids are traditional)
- Hand sewing needles
- 50 wt thread matching the design for appliqué
- 40 wt thread for the quilting
- Construction paper 16” x 16”
- Paper scissors
- Fabric scissors
- Marking pencil
